After arriving in Paris, my first mission was to try and find my hotel. Fortunately, Paris has a very good metro system, whose only drawback is that its ticket machines don't take notes. Fortunately it did take cards though, so sorry about that anti- climax. That then gave me the world's smallest piece of paper, which was my ticket for the whole day.
After successfully not losing it, and navigating Paris' metro and streets, I made it to the hotel. After a quick freshen up, it was time to hit the streets (apparently it has some tower, or something). Another quick debacle with the metro led me to La Arc d'triumph (that's probably spelt wrong- French really isn't my strong point) and the Champs Élysées. After walking around for quite some time, trying to find the subway to the arch itself (including walking back through the station) I found it. And the payment desk. I decided that it wasn't quite worth the €9 charge, so headed back, and down the Champs Élysées. A small amount of walking led me to the river Seine, where I got my first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. As I started walking towards it, dark clouds gathered above, and soon after came a massive crack of thunder. I dived for the nearest metro, and completed the journey that way. Which wasn't a bad idea, as it dropped me off here:
After wandering up to the tower and back (note: not up the tower), and after being shocked by the restaurant prices there (€10 for a sandwich!) I decided to head to Montparnasse for some food, where a pizza and a beer set me back just €13. Re- fuelled, I headed back out for some last minute sightseeing, passing the Louvre, and then place du Concorde. As the sky turned black once more, I headed home for the night.
That pretty much brings you up to date- I'm now on a double-decker train (witchcraft, I know) heading for nice. That though, is a story for another day (tomorrow). See you then.
